Argentina's presentation for inclusion into the Six Nations has hardly been met with the great enthusiasm from the Six Nations committee.
At the recent meeting in London, the committee has indicated that they
believe the Tri Nations would suit the Pumas better. However, they did
say the Pumas had earned the right to play in one of the two major competitions.
"The unanimous view was that a berth had to be found for Argentina in a major tournament," Martyn Thomas, the chairman of the Rugby Football Union's management board, told the Guardian newspaper.
"Their performances not just in the World Cup but in recent years merit that.
"The feeling was that, logistically, they would be better off in the Tri Nations. They are a southern-hemisphere team and increasing the size of the Six Nations could lead to fixture problems."
The issue has been the topic of much debate, with former Pumas first five Hugo Porta saying it was "more viable" for his former side to play in the northern hemisphere.
However, current Pumas midfield back Felipe Contepomi believes the Tri Nations would be the better option.
"I think our future lies in the Tri Nations," he said. "Otherwise we risk becoming too reliant on European clubs signing up our emerging players.
