Aussie McLean has stepped aside from the Wellington Lions rugby coaching job, with former All Black Jamie Joseph stepping into the breach for next season.
McLean will concentrate on his job as backs coach for the Hurricanes
in the Super 14 as well as spending more time with his young family.
Josephs outstanding work with the young Lions forward pack made a big impression in the capital city this year and he is now considered ready to take over the reins from McLean, who was grooming him for the main job during the Air New Zealand Cup.
"It's worked out in all respects really," Joseph said.
"This was always part of the plan of getting Aussie back. I just plug away really. I've never really looked too far ahead and I still don't. I'm just going to get in there and roll the sleeves up."
The 37-year-old former All Black loose forward was Wellingtons lineout coach from 2003 to 2006.
Wellington will advertise for an assistant coach to Joseph shortly.
